DRIX3755/16GB PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT
16GB Memory Upgrade for the IBM System x3950 M2 Enterprise Server

March 12, 2008—Dataram today announced the immediate availability of a 16GB memory upgrade for IBM’s System x3950 M2 Enterprise Server. With Dataram’s DRIX3755/16GB, customers have the ability to utilize up to 256GB of memory in this fourth-generation IBM X-Architecture system. The DRIX3755/16GB upgrade consists of a matched pair of 8GB PC2-5300 DDR2-667 Registered ECC DIMMs.

The IBM System x3950 M2 is a 4U rack-optimized enterprise server with Dual- or Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors. The fourth-generation IBM X-Architecture chipset delivers performance, balanced design and proven reliability. Memory is implemented in the x3950 M2 using memory cards. The server supports up to four memory cards. Each card has eight DIMM sockets, giving a total of up to 32 DIMM sockets. Some models have two memory cards and some have all four cards standard.

Dataram’s DRIX3755/16GB (2 x 8GB DIMMs) fully support IBM’s Active Memory technologies including Memory ProteXion, memory mirroring, memory hot-add/hot-swap memory and Chipkill. Validation of the 16GB upgrade in the IBM x3755 and other servers is not yet complete.

Multi-node configurations
The x3950 M2 can be a basic building block, or node, for a scalable system which allows 8-, 12- and 16-way configurations by adding additional x3950 M2s as required. For example:

• A two-node complex comprised of two x3950 M2 servers, with four or eight processors and up to 512GB of Dataram memory
• A three-node complex comprised of three x3950 M2 servers, with three or six processors and up to 768GB of Dataram memory
• A four-node complex comprised of four x3950 M2 servers, with eight or 16 processors and up to 1TB of Dataram memory
