First-to-Market 16GB Upgrade for Sun Fire X4600 M2 Servers Doubles Maximum Memory Capacity from 256GB to 512GB
March 11, 2008—Dataram today announced the immediate availability of a first-to-market 16GB memory upgrade for Sun Microsystems’ Sun Fire X4600 M2 server. The X4600 M2 features the latest in next-generation AMD Opteron 8000 Series processors and low-power, high-speed DDR2 memory technologies.
Dataram’s DRSX4600M2/16GB upgrade consists of a matched pair of 8GB PC2-5300 DDR2-667MHz ECC Registered DIMMs with Chipkill Technology. The X4600 M2 supports one to eight CPU/Memory cards and each card will, depending on the type, contain either four or eight DIMM slots. The maximum memory capacity using the 4-DIMM Slot CPU/Memory cards is 256GB (when configured with 8GB DIMMs and 8 CPU/Memory cards). The maximum memory capacity using the 8-DIMM Slot CPU/Memory cards is 512GB (when configured with 8GB DIMMs and 8 CPU/Memory cards).
Sun offers base configurations of the Sun Fire X4600 M2 Server starting with two dual-core Opteron 8216 processors and 4GB (4 x 1GB) of memory. The systems are available with a choice of operating systems—Solaris, Linux, Windows, and are ideal for virtualization with VMware or as database servers.
